How to Use the Serial Console

What Is a Serial Console?

A serial console connection allows you to monitor the boot up, restart and shutdown processes of your server, thus the serial console makes entrance to the server possible, even if this is no longer attainable over the net. A text output given by the Kernel describes the processes that the server is attending too when going through any of the phases mentioned above. This is especially useful for system administers as they can now observe the actions taken by the server.

You would need to log into the serial console via a SSH Client, such as PuTTY http://www.putty.nl/download.html to make use of the serial console connection.
