How to check if you ISP has blocked port 25


Step 1 Open a DOS command window, to do this click on the Windows Start Button. Select Run, type in cmd then press the "OK" button. A small black window should open.
Step 2 Type into the DOS command window telnet auth.smtp.1and1.co.uk 25 then hit enter on your keyboard. This will open a connection to the 1&1 SMTP server on port 25.
Step 3 If nothing happened at this stage, if the screen just remains blank then your ISP has blocked port 25 and you should change to port 587 as the out going SMTP port. Proceed to Step 11 for instructions on how to change your Outgoing Mail port.

If you connect, to make sure that there are no problems try sending a message, to do this proceed to the next step
Step 4 Type in helo you@yourdomain.co.ukand hit Enter, this will announce you to the SMTP server and it should greet you.
Step 5 You will now need to specify who the mail is form. Type in mail from:you@yourdomain.co.uk and hit Enter
Step 6 Next you will need to specify who the mail is from. Type in rcpt to:someone@somewhere.com and hit Enter
Step 7 Now you need to create the body of the mail, i.e. the Message. Type in data and hit Enter.
Step 8 Type in the content of the message
Step 9 To finish the message place a . on a line by its self, and hit Enter. The Mail will be queued for delivery.
Step 10 Type in quit to close the connection to the SMTP server and check the E-mail address that you sent the mail to.
