The Difference Between POP3 and IMAPThere are two different protocols available to access e-mail: POP3 and IMAP. POP3 is useful when E-Mail is checked from only one computer. IMAP is the better choice when you would like to check your mail from multiple computers, at home, work or on location. IMAP has the added benefit of accessing folders on the server, allowing you to organize your e-mail, and access it from anywhere. 1&1's Webmail (http://webmail.1and1.co.uk) uses an IMAP system. If you use Webmail, you should use IMAP on all of your E-Mail clients. Use of a POP3 mail client in association with Webmail can cause errors in your inbox that will result in a temporary loss of access to your mail. To create a POP3/IMAP email account, sign in to your Control Panel and click on the package you wish to configure. You will be directed to Webhosting Control Panel for that package. ![]() From the main Control Panel click on the E-mail icon. ![]() Click Create a new to start the process of creating a new E-Mail address. ![]() Enter the local part of the email address you want to create. This could be your name or a department or label which you want people to send mail to. So in this example E-mail address will be "steve.trent". ![]() Next you will need to select the type of account this can be either Mailbox or Forward, for POP3 or IMAP you need to pick "Mailbox". ![]() The Account name displayed is your Mailbox name. Enter the password. Your password should be at least 7 characters long. Please noteThis password will not be displayed anywhere else. Please make a note of it.
Additional accounts can be created by selecting "Add another mailbox or forward?". You can choose to create more than 1 mailbox for a single account. This is useful when you want the mail to be directed to various accounts in the company. For example: You may want the order to be sent to the sales department, package department and book keeping department. Step 4: Click 'Save'. TipYour e-mail account will not be created unless you click the 'Save' button.
Once you have completed the e-mail setup you will be shown a brief overview with all the server and account details you will need to access the e-mailbox. ![]() Please noteIt will take around 3 hours once you have created you E-Mail address and mailbox
