How do I check if the Name servers (DNS) are correct?

The 1&1 system checks if the DNS you are changing to is correct. A correct DNS
resolves to an IP Address and this IP Address resolves to the same domain name.
For example, ns27.1and1.com resolves to 217.160.224.3 and 217.160.224.3 resolves to ns27.1and1.com.

You can do a simple check to see if the DNS you have are correct.
On the web: Go to DNSStuff.com.
1. Type in the Name server under "DNS Lookup"(3rd column)and click "Lookup".
2. Copy the IP address and click the back button.
3. Enter the IP Address under "Reverse DNS Lookup". (2nd column) Click "RevDNS".
4. The answer should be the Name server.

A minimum of 2 DNS is required. The DNS should be on different Class C Networks.
For example:
ns1.something.com 217.160.247.1
ns2.something.com 217.160.247.2
will not work because the IP addresses of the DNS lie in the same Class C (247) network.

Command prompt (Linux)
myshell:~> host ns27.1and1.com
ns27.1and1.com has address 217.160.224.3

myshell:~> host 217.160.224.3
3.224.160.217.in-addr.arpa domain name pointer ns27.1and1.co.uk
